Expectations for student behavior:

In addition to the Digital Communications areas of study, an important part of our curriculum at the Academy are the employability/Lifeskills upon which we build our beliefs regarding self-discipline and behavior. Our school is a place where students are encouraged to do their best and are expected to contribute to a positive learning environment.

All students are expected to . . .
•  Be on time for class with all materials needed and ready to work immediately.
•  All food and drinks should be put away in your book bag.
•  Maintain self-discipline at all times, and respect the rights of other students.
•  Be cooperative and follow directions as given by the teacher.
•  Avoid causing or participating in any classroom disruptions.
•  Complete all assigned class and homework on time.
•  Help keep the classroom clean by checking your workspace daily before leaving.
•  Leave your workspace neat when you leave. (Shut down computer, straighten keyboard, mouse and mousepad neatly, and push your chair in under the table.   Do not leave papers, pen, pencils, etc. on tables.)
•  Follow all regulations and policies in the Academy's student handbook.

Consequences for not meeting expectations for behavior:
1st offense:   Verbal warning from teacher
2nd offense: 15 minutes detention and phone call to parents
3rd offense:   30 minutes detention and a support team meeting will be arranged
4th offense:   Referral to administration for action
(detention will be assigned before school, after school, and during lunch if necessary)

Expectations for the use of computers and other classroom equipment:

Since the curriculum for Digital Communications is computer-based, it is imperative that students in this major be responsible and trustworthy in their computer use.   The following is our classroom policy on computer use, which incorporates HCS and AAST policies for proper computer use.
It is a privilege to have the right to use the computers and other equipment owned by the school district.   Students are expected to use the equipment for educational purposes only.

All students are expected to:
•  Use the provided equipment and supplies only as requested and instructed by the teacher.
•  Use available software programs only as directed by the teacher.
•  Report all security violations such as unauthorized websites or unauthorized access to areas of the computer and/or network.
•  Use their personal account to login to a workstation every time.
•  Save only educational files on their network drive.
•  Not use the C drive to save work or personal files.
•  Follow U.S. Copyright laws.
•  Access educational websites pertaining to their assigned work only.
•  Ask permission before printing anything other than what has been assigned for printing.
•  Shut down all programs and the computer before leaving the classroom.
•  Leave a clean work area for the next person.

Consequences for not meeting expectations for use of computers and other equipment:
1st offense:    discussion of policy and no computer use for the rest of the class period
2nd offense:    detention/work detail
3rd offense: two-week suspension from all computer technology at the Academy and a Support Team Meeting with parents.
4th offense:   Permanent suspension from the use of all computer technology at the Academy for the rest of the school year.
